Founding Engineer and Lead - New York

Compensation: $250,000 - $350,000 (USD) base plus significant equity. The founders are explicit that they will go above market for the right person. THE COMPANY Building autonomous revenue teams. The product combines traditional ML with AI-native capabilities to build agents that replace the account management and customer success work driving revenue outcomes, focused on post sales: growing and protecting revenue from existing customers. $11M raised, with an $8.5M seed led by TQ Ventures (a $2B+ AUM multi-stage fund) and backing from HubSpot Ventures. $0 to $1M in contracts. Customers range from fast growth startups to Fortune 500 enterprises. Their product is not another tool generating text from unstructured data. It has to be their customers' in-house data science expert, which is why the ML bar is real. THE ROLE 75% hands on IC work, 25% leading a pod of 2 to 3 engineers. For the first six months this looks like a tech lead role, not a traditional engineering manager seat. - Ship the product enhancements that take them from functional to a self serve motion. The near term roadmap is scoped - Heavily involved in product decisions and overall architecture - Technical mentorship first, explicit people management later. Not expected on day one - Six to twelve months out: their own models and agentic training pipelines - Clear path to Head of Engineering or VP Engineering WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR - 5 to 12 years in full stack engineering with Python, building data heavy or applied AI products - Genuinely advanced with AI-assisted development: multi agent and agent to agent orchestration, eval design, automated QA, context and memory management, your own harnesses. Not default copilot usage - Real classical ML fundamentals. You know the traditional algorithms inside out and can call out an algorithm recommendation that does not make sense, whether it comes from an engineer or an agent - Founding engineer, tech lead or staff IC at a high bar startup. Big Tech is fine if you can prove core product ownership - Full stack capable (React/Next.js front end, Python/Node back end) with stronger backend depth. A pure backend profile will not work - BS or higher in CS, Math, Statistics or ML from a top tier university - Graduate level ML or statistics coursework is a strong plus - At most 3 years of pure people management. Beyond that is too far removed from daily coding LOCATION New York, 5 days in office. Relocation supported. Visa transfers and new sponsorships open (OPT, H1B, TN). PROCESS Two founder screens, then a half day onsite split between strictly no-AI work and strictly AI-assisted work, then a fit conversation with an existing engineer. The founders will travel to meet you where you are.
